Dear Studio Families, Now is the time to plan for our Spring 2015 Cello semester. Attached you will find a studio calendar with many dates to plan for, including group classes, performances, and events with special guests. As usual, tuition is due during the first week of the semester when lessons resume after winter break: Jan. 5-9, 2015. I have an exciting opportunity which will allow me to travel to Peru during a good chunk of January. I will be going to the International Suzuki Festival in Lima, Peru as a teacher trainee to learn the Suzuki method in Spanish. I’m very excited to broaden my skill set, but I’m very nervous since I’m only a “Twinkler” in Spanish speaking abilities. Wish me luck in my 3rd language (English and music being the first two)! I’m also lucky to spend some time trekking in the mountains while there. I’ve arranged for special guest teachers to work with you while I am away. We are so fortunate they are willing to dedicate some time to us! Please give them the same respect you give me and practice hard for your experience with them! First, you will have the opportunity to work with Brittany Gardner in a group class experience to workshop specific repertoire on Saturday, Jan. 17. See details on the attached schedule. Second, you will have the opportunity to have a Masterclass (mini private lesson within a small group setting) on Saturday, Jan. 24, with either Margaret Romney or Carey Cheney (see attached schedule). This will be your chance to get specific one-on-one feedback with another fabulous teacher while I am gone. If you cannot attend either of these, or need to swap Masterclass times, let me know immediately, or please contact these teachers directly on the day of the event to update them on your specific needs. And parents, don’t forget to sign up to attend the SAU Parent Convention on Sat. Jan. 31. You will be energized with new inspiration for how to guide your budding young musician! When I return in February, we will be back to business as usual. Those who are playing in SAU Cello Graduation will have a rehearsal on Feb. 21 and the concert on Feb. 28 (more details coming). Otherwise, we will have a special focus on preparation for Cello Federation on March 21. If you want to participate in Cello Federation, I will need to know at our first lesson in Jan where we will fill out your application form. It is a great opportunity to polish 2 pieces at a high level of excellence and receive personal feedback from 3 cello adjudicators. Every student who works hard for this experience always feels a sense of accomplishment and pride afterward. After we work hard for Federation, we will get a nice week off for Spring Break, Mar. 30-Apr. 3. In April, you will again have another amazing opportunity to work with a special guest: Alice Ann O’Neill, from Cincinnati, OH. She will be teaching our group classes on Wed, April 15. She will be teaching masterclasses to a limited number of students who are interested in additional one-on-one time on Sat. April 18. I will escape the country once more, to return to teach at the Live Arts Music Festival in Mexico City April 20-25. I’m excited to put my Spanish skills to use once again! No lessons will be held that week. We will wrap up our semester goals with a Spring Studio Recital on May 15. We will have a great Spring Semester filled with new faces, new opportunities, and fun performances to work toward. I’m looking forward to a fresh start to 2015! Happy cello-ing! Megan

Summer is a time for change: breaks from school, intensive summer camps, vacations to recharge and refresh, and a shift in life's pacing. Let's aim for a great summer music experience!
I will be teaching at 3 different summer music camps this year: Bryce Canyon Music Camp (June 9-13), National Cello Institute (June 22-28), and DFW-WOW (July 2-7). I'm also doing Suzuki teacher training at Intermountain Suzuki String Institute (June 16-21). When I am home, I'm dedicated to my students and meeting them where they want to be on their own cello journey. Please book all summer lessons online with my new booking software. All important information can be found here. Megan’s Cello Studio will celebrate the season of gratitude and giving by gathering for a concert and food drive. Students and family members may contribute to our food drive during the entire month of November. Our culminating event will be a concert benefiting the Utah Food Bank. Tuesday, November 26, 2013 6:00 pm Holladay City Hall Big Cottonwood Room 4580 S. 2300 E. Holladay, UT 84117 Did you know that 1 in 5 Utah children is at risk of hunger? As a Food Drive Coordinator, I want to invite you to participate in a food/fund drive to benefit Utah Food Bank. It's a great way to make a meaningful difference and get involved in the community. The Utah Food Bank is an ideal place to donate. They can take a $1 donation and turn it into $8 worth of food and services. This is possible because of volunteer support and generous food donations. Not only that, Utah Food Bank is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, so all contributions are tax deductible. Teams are formed based on lesson days. Use these links to donate to your team: Thank you for all your contributions to this food and fund drive! The time has come to request lesson slots for the upcoming school year! Please use this form to request your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices. Schedule confirmations will be complete by mid-August and the schedule will go into effect Aug. 26-30.
Please use this form to fill out summer lesson requests. Fill out by May 18 and you will have confirmation by May 23.
Cello Graduation is fast approaching. This is one of our favorite cello concerts of the year! Students from all Suzuki levels will perform their polished pieces together on one stage. We begin with the most advanced students and play down the books, finishing with our ever-favorite Twinkle.
12 teachers across the state of Utah are participating for a grand total of 140 cellists graduating various levels. Congratulations to all involved! SAU Cello Graduation Concert Saturday, February 4, 2012 3:30 pm Auditorium at Salt Lake City Main Library 210 E. 400 S. Our holiday group cello concert is coming up in less than 2 weeks!

Please bring small stools/chairs. Students are welcome to dress in nice holiday attire. All repertoire information has been passed out in lessons and group class. Please refer to the repertoire list for all review pieces and holiday pieces. Every year Suzuki Association of Utah offers graduation events for its members. The Cello Graduation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Salt Lake City Main Library Auditorium. The concert will begin at 3:30 pm and students are expected to arrive early for setup and rehearsing. Advanced students Book 5 and above should plan to rehearse one week prior (Saturday, January 28) to prepare for the graduation concert.
The graduation concert is a wonderful opportunity for students of all levels to perform with other Suzuki cellists on pieces that they have refined and polished. Suzuki cello teachers across the entire state present students in this fabulous concert. Graduates are given certificates for all of their graduate level pieces. All other participants will receive a certificate of participation. This event is funded by SAU family membership dues and is free of charge for any families belonging to SAU. I am responsible for organizing this event and depend on other cello teachers to volunteer help as needed. Parent volunteers are also needed. Please notify me if you'd like to volunteer to help in any way. I will automatically enroll all of my SAU students. Please let me know if you cannot attend the concert. If you are interested in joining SAU to participate in this event as well as others, please let me know. Our studio recitals will be held on Saturday, November 12. You can choose between 3 different time slots: 9 am, 10:30 am, and 12 noon. All students are expected to perform a memorized piece and should decide on that now! Stay tuned for further details on location.
Sometimes all we need is a little idea for a change of pace. Students who complete this list will earn a surprise at the end of the summer. Happy Practicing! |
