Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) Music Classes are designed to be a catalyst for educating a child from birth through age 4, using music as a vehicle to develop social, communicative and musical skills.
Based on the belief that each child has unlimited potential to learn, and can do so easily when parent and teacher work as a team to create a positive and nurturing environment, children inevitably develop abilities from a young age. It is not uncommon to see SECE students keep a steady beat by the age of 1, sing in tune by the age of 2, and start instrumental study by the age of 3.
It should be expected that any child will learn basic music skills in any music program. Unlike other early childhood music programs, the Suzuki early childhood music curriculum focuses on character development through long-term mastery. Our strategic class curriculum and calm learning environment nurture the following skills:
There is an implicit belief in the Suzuki Education method that the parent is critical to the development of their own child. The weekly one hour SECE class provides an atmosphere where the parent can hone the support of their developing child. Over the the years of participation, parents become excellent observers of not only their own child, but keen observers of the others in the class. Parents become adept at recognizing the small achievements and milestones that are gradually developing in their own child. This establishes an invaluable bond between parent and child and leaves the child with a strong foundation for learning.
What the Parents Say
I have been in the SECE classes for over three years with my two daughters. I have been amazed at how their verbal, emotional, and social skills have benefited due to the class. My oldest still loves to attend class and has not tired of the music and activities at all. Both girls love to see themselves growing as they "level up" to the next step in the activities when they're ready. They request the CD in the car, and can't wait for class each week. -Elisabeth H., Dickinson, TX
This program helped me, as the parent, see how quickly my baby can understand beat and rhythm. My child loved each class and I now know it's never too early to get your child learning more about music! -Heather M., Humble, TX
I really can't say enough about how much I love the SECE class! My son loves it and it helps him learn to be kind, to share, to care for others. This class really teaches the babies and toddlers - it's not a chaotic free-for-all like so many other classes. They learn to keep a beat which helps with self-regulation, fine and gross motor skills, and many more pre-music skills, but more importantly to me, they learn to be good, kind people. What more could we ever want for our young children? -Heather H., Greenwich, CT
