Recently, I enjoyed watching Yo-Yo Ma perform on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert Series. He was there because of his latest album - the 3rd time in his career that he has recorded the Bach Cello Suites.
But 3 studio recordings of the same music?! Why would he do that?! His first recording of the Bach Cello Suites was in 1983. It earned him his first Grammy. His second recording (1998) was intended as a film series in collaboration with artists from different disciplines. And finally, his 3rd recording, The 6 Evolutions, came out in August 2018. Yo-Yo Ma has a deep river of experience flowing throughout his career and is always seeking new ways to connect with people. He clearly had more to communicate with the Bach Cello Suites, known as the "cellist Bible." After playing this music for 58 years, Yo-Yo Ma has found new meaning and perspective and he wants to share that message with you.
